YMCA of Greater Monmouth County Receives Recognition for Community Service
SHREWSBURY, New Jersey – The New Jersey Business and Industry Association (NJBIA) has named the YMCA of Greater Monmouth County (the Y) as one of 20 recipients of its annual awards of excellence.
The Y was chosen in the Community Service category with Laurie Goganzer, President and CEO, hailed for the organization’s rapid adaptation for outreach, additional programs and community projects in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.
NJBIA President and CEO Michele Siekerka said, “This year’s Excellence Award winners have stepped up to do good for their employees, their communities and the New Jersey economy. We are truly proud to recognize their remarkable accomplishments.
The Community Service Award was presented to the Y for its leadership in finding solutions to social or economic challenges.
At the onset of the pandemic, the Y activated its Togetherhood® program, a volunteer initiative, and partnered with several nonprofits to meet emerging community needs. Dozens of Y volunteers have helped collect and distribute over 38,000 meals to needy families in greater Monmouth County. The Y has also provided emergency child care to healthcare workers, organized blood drives, and set up COVID testing and vaccination sites.
