CEBU CITY, Philippines – Cebu University (UC) Sports Director of Webmasters Jessica Honoridez has created a community pantry to help the entire Cebu sports community.
On Saturday, September 25, Honoridez set up the community pantry at the UC Webmasters table tennis training headquarters and began handing out canned goods, which she received from generous donors.
Honoridez and the Webmasters had already had two distributions of relief goods at the start of the pandemic last year.
But that was initially limited to its athletes and coaches.
With this in mind, Honoridez wanted to expand its charity program by creating a community pantry where all members of Cebu’s sports community could benefit.
“Daghan man klase sa tabang, pagstart sa pandemic, nakaraise ko ug pero para lang relief campaign for its athletes and non-athletes its UC. Kutob ra sad mi didto,” Honoridez told CDN Digital.
(There are many ways to help early in the pandemic. I was able to raise funds and a relief campaign, but these were only for UC athletes and non-athletes. We stopped. the.)
“Karon, nahatagan ko og luck nga makatabang ug balik, dili lang with UC taga UC kun dili for tanan pinaagi ni sa taw nga gusto sad motabang. Lang ko ani instrument for makatabang sa nanginahanglan.
(Now I was given a chance to help again, this time it’s not just for those in UC but for all through the people who also wanted to help. I’m just an instrument for help those who need it.)
She was inspired by the idea of having a community pantry after seeing this concept on the news. She said that by having a community pantry, she believed they could help more people affected by the pandemic.
“I extend this help not only to our own athletes, but to all members of the Cebu sports community, including Cesafi schools, regardless of their colors. This community pantry will also serve as an outlet for generous people to do whatever they want to help those in need during this time of uncertainty, ”Honoridez said.
Honoridez said athletic directors at Cesafi’s member schools could coordinate with her to receive relief items available at UC’s community pantry.
In addition, Honoridez said they will provide relief items to janitors, security guards and UC maintenance staff, including those assigned to the Cebu City Sports Commission and the Sports Center. Cebu city sports.
Honoridez wanted to make his community known to the public to attract generous donors who would help them support their charitable program.
