Pantries on the Suncoast struggle to help others as demand more than doubles. The New Hope Community Church Pantry on Mondays and Fridays has seen traffic to residences in need double and is partnering with HOPE for North Port to help better serve North Port Town residents and communities surrounding. The pantry serves residents of the city and surrounding communities. Their All Faiths distribution partnership provides residents of Sarasota, DeSoto and Manatee counties with a wide variety of nutritional items. Recently, they have seen people travel from Lee County and Manatee County in addition to serving Charlotte County residents seeking assistance. Last year, an average month saw them serve over 7,500 household members. Current demand allows them to serve more than 11,000 household members per month. The pantry wants to be able to meet the increased demand of our current situation within our communities. They want to reach more people and show the radical love of Jesus through selfless giving. There is a growing need for healthy volunteers to help on Mondays and Fridays from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Thursdays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. In addition to volunteers, they need cans as well as canned meats with caps like tuna and chicken.

Increased pantry traffic has put financial pressure on the pantry budget. They have partnered with HOPE for North Port Community Development Corporation to reach a goal of $10,000 so they can continue to serve the population in need during, during and after the current health crisis. They anticipate higher demand in the future and seek to bring healing and hope to the residence as they seek to find stability in these difficult times. This year, their budget has doubled, but is still not enough to meet the growing demand for food pantry for local residents. HOPE for North Port is raising financial donations in an effort to bring stability to the pantry as they navigate this time of increased demand.
