Christmas Dinner came early to the Sapphire Community Pantry this week with over 300 meals donated thanks to Two Good Co. Two Good cooks and delivers top quality meals to women’s shelters in Sydney, but has also supported the Sapphire Community Pantry for the past two years. Last year, the social enterprise also helped organize a Christmas event at Quaama Hall, preparing a large buffet dinner for the whole community and organizing a cooking class using camping stoves. READ ALSO: First Look At The Tathra Beach Eco Camp Rising From The Ashes Of The 2018 Bushfire Jen Shaw and Colin Magree of Two Good returned to Bega this week with a pantry frozen meal truck, which provides fresh produce low-cost groceries to the community as well as supporting the most vulnerable in our region. “We obviously recognized that the needs in this area had increased after the bushfires,” Ms Shaw said. “We nurture women in shelters across Greater Sydney and we also run our Work Work program, hiring women from these shelters to teach them foster skills and guide them into the job market. “These women also prepare the meals we give. We deliver approximately 700-800 meals per week in Sydney. “Then we load 1000 meals for a trip to the south coast, dropping them off at Nowra, Moruya and Bega. “There is no better feeling than having a meal prepared and made with love,” said Ms Shaw ALSO READ: Work is starting the Cobargo Innovation Hub to support businesses affected by the bushfires, Christine Welsh, president of Sapphire Community Pantry, said she will also distribute some of the recent delivery to the Bega Women’s Resource Centre, Women’s Shelter and Katungul recipes from some of Australia’s top chefs, including Maggie Beer, Colin Fassnidge, Kylie Kwong and Matt Moran, to name a few.Cookbook illustrations are partly inspired by the company’s travels to the south coast and the resilience of bushfire-affected communities like the Bega Valley.
