Oak Lawn Community Church Drive-Thru Food Pantry open Wednesdays

OAK LAWN, IL – The Oak Lawn Community Church Pantry would like to inform residents of Oak Lawn that the church will be holding pantry hours on Wednesday, June 10 at the Bridgeview Community Center, 7902 S. Oketo Ave., Bridgeview. The pantry serves 150 families and regularly distributes food from noon to 2 p.m. every Wednesday.

The church pantry, part of the Greater Chicago Food Depository network, was established in the 1980s. The pantry moved its base in 2016 to the Bridgeview Community Center in order to have space for its food supply. Today, Oak Lawn Community Church is the only pantry in the southern suburbs to offer meat, and one of the few that regularly offers produce.

Oak Lawn Community Church’s pantry serves 150 families a month, who come from 20 southern suburbs and five Chicago zip codes. Vicki Mitchell, an OLCC representative, said the pantry would like to see more Oak Lawn residents take advantage of the pantry, especially with high unemployment due to the pandemic.

People requesting food assistance are asked to wear a face covering when picking up food. Residents will be asked to provide their postal code, the number of people in their household and whether they are receiving SNAP. People who receive SNAP will not be turned away. This information is used for record keeping purposes only. Drive-thru service and volunteers will place food in your car.

For more information, please contact Oak Lawn Community Church at 708-599-4025. Please share with someone who may need food assistance.
