North Liberty Community Pantry opens community closet
NORTH LIBERTY, Iowa (KCRG) – The North Liberty Community Pantry is hosting the grand opening of its Community Closet on Friday. The Pantry has served the North Liberty Community since 1985.
“We really wanted to start 2021 with a positive agenda and somehow address a need that has not been met in the community,” said Kailia Rome, executive director of North Liberty Food Pantry.
The closet contains items such as underwear, work clothes, shoes, etc. They will offer sizes ranging from infants to adults.
“We are trying to provide professional work clothes, maintenance type clothes, as well as clothes for the children to go back to school, as children grow up very frequently,” Rome said.
Families served by the pantry can shop in the cupboard once a week and each person can take up to 5 items.
Items in the closet are donated by members of the local community.
“The community of North Liberty has been extremely generous with the donations, clothing donations have just come in which has been great,” said Rome. “There was a need in the community to donate clothes. And people cleaned their cupboards a lot during the pandemic ”.
The cupboard will be open at the same hours as the pantry.
