Flatirons Community Church collects gift cards for fire victims

Gift cards and cash are incredibly versatile gifts to show someone you care about.

LAFAYETTE, Colo. (KDVR) – Nonprofits, churches and various community groups are working to help those displaced by the Marshall fire. Flatirons Community Church is participating in a gift card drive to help evacuees purchase clothing, food and essentials.

“So many of our members want to step in, they want to help,” said Flatirons Community Church Senior Executive Pastor Jesse DeYoung. “They need help immediately with the clothes. They need help with food.

Those at Flatirons Community Church gave gift cards and cash ahead of their Sunday morning church service.

“I think we are all affected by this tragedy,” said Heather Webb, who donated the gift cards.

Donations come from neighbors helping their neighbors. DeYoung said now is the time to think about how victims will be supported in the future.

“For us, we’re trying to figure out – what it’s like to walk with these people over the next month, two months, all year,” DeYoung said.

The church recommends gift cards to places like Walmart, Target, Costco, Sams Club, and local restaurants.

The lobby of each of the Flatirons Community Church campuses has a deposit for gift cards.
