ENID, Oklahoma— The largest retail center in the northwest quadrant of the state is in Enid and Garfield County. Business and economic development are paramount to the continued growth of “The Wheat Capital”, and marketing, advertising, news and information are economic development tools that bring readers and businesses together.

Newspaper and media publishing company Enid News & Eagle is a long-standing community-based news and marketing organization focused on local media. According to Cindy Allen, publisher and editor of Enid News & Eagle, having a strong, viable and relevant newspaper is an economic development tool for any region.

“What’s most important about ENE is that we’re reliable, relevant, accountable, and we’re also the region’s largest news and advertising organizations,” Allen said. “It’s important that we let readers know what’s going on.”

“Content is King”

Enid News & Eagle publications reach far beyond Garfield County in terms of distribution, readership and coverage; however, the News & Eagle newspaper reaches 89% of adults in Garfield County alone.

With an urban population of 51,000, the News & Eagle serves approximately 15,000 print readers and 25,000 digital readers daily. The company produces several other original publications in addition to its 24/7 online presence and six-day-a-week newspaper.

Publicity manager Leslie Magalios said there is no other media source providing this coverage in Garfield County.

“The advantage of Enid News & Eagle is our trusted sources and content,” Magalios said. “Content is king. People rely on us for news and information. So if they see an advertisement in the newspaper, they believe the content and will also believe the advertisement. »

Marketing Options

Along with the well-known role of a newspaper to report news, sports and entertainment happening in the community, as well as classifieds, print and web advertisements to offer more information, the News and Eagle offers a full range of marketing options through print, digital, email, geo-fencing, geo-targeting, social, event marketing and other growth tactics. “We have different platforms that we can use to extend our advertisers’ reach,” Magalios said. “Through these programs, we can target by demographics, psychography and geography.”

In the age of social media, businesses may see that a few hundred of their followers have seen their last post, but with ever-changing online algorithms, the guarantee that thousands of followers will see every post is low, explained Magalios.

The paper has a guaranteed audience, with no mysterious algorithm pushing back posts and news, Magalios explained.

Local newspaper by local people

Although names and owners have changed over the decades, this local publication has been around for over 120 years. The archived, subscriber-based nature of the newspaper is a permanent and intensely local feature of the News & Eagle, Allen said.

As long-established companies have changed over the decades, so has ENE. Beyond paper and ink, the News & Eagle website offers 24-hour availability; daily headlines sent by e-mail with links to local, regional, national and international news; a digital newspaper in electronic edition that looks like its paper counterpart; the latest news fully accessible to all; and text alerts to deliver news and information.

The company’s other publications include E Town and E Kids magazines, the local medical directory, a newcomer’s guide, the Greater Enid Chamber of Commerce directory, the Vance AirScoop newspaper and the neighbour, which offers information and advertising.

Daily readership and use of ENE products is through reader and business support.

This community support is extended as News & Eagle produces information that serves the region, while participating in community events large and small.

The News & Eagle employs approximately 50 experienced and trained employees living in the area and 60 contractors to deliver its products.

“We’re locals covering local news,” Allen said. “We have local faces, names, addresses, etc. You see us at the grocery store or at ball games or special events. We are Enid and Garfield County.

The role of a community newspaper is that of a “community watchdog” as well as a “community builder,” Allen said.

“We act as the eyes and ears of readers who monitor public spending, public decisions, the quality of education, the behavior of law enforcement, the votes of legislators, etc.” she declared. “It’s a special role for a local newspaper. We care about the community; so we want to see it succeed. We have common interests with everyone here.
