DepEd sets up Bayanihan Community Pantry for employees – Manila Bulletin
To help its employees who need help, the central office of the Department of Education (DepEd) has set up a simple community pantry at its Pasig City complex.
DepEd said Friday, July 2 that the community pantry was established as part of its 123rd founding anniversary in June. âAs we celebrate our anniversary, we want to relive the spirit of Bayanihan with our staff and stakeholders,â said Education Secretary Leonor Briones.
This year, DepEd’s founding anniversary theme is anchored to âBayanihan para sa Edukasyonâ which recognizes the help and support of teachers and non-teaching staff, parents, stakeholders, partners and the community in continuing education in the midst of the pandemic, providing education as a shared responsibility.
âIt’s wonderful to see that the whole department is helping each other out, making sure everyone is healthy and safe in these difficult times,â she added.
The community pantry was made possible through cooperation between the Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Service (DRRMS) and the Office of Human Resources and Organizational Development-Employee Welfare Division (BHROD-EWD ).
DRRMS provided vegetables, basic groceries and other food packaging to staff in the simple pantry set up in front of the Rizal hall of the central office with the help of the administrative department. The organizers ensured that the minimum and mandatory health protocols were respected during the activity.
âWe encourage our field offices to join us in emphasizing the spirit of Bayanihan by continually helping our colleagues and helping our community,â said Briones.
In April, various community pantries popped up across the country, organized by learners, teachers and DepEd staff.
Some of these pantries have provided reading and learning materials to help learners in the midst of the pandemic.
Meanwhile, DRRMS director Ronilda Co explained that the community pantry is âone of our ways to help our employees during this pandemic. We want to show them the spirit of Bayanihan and that our DepEd family is ready when they need our help.
In addition to the Pantry initiative, DRRMS has also been at the forefront of DepEd’s mental health programs and activities.
