INDIANA – Grace United Methodist Church, 50 S. 7th St., will be holding services at 9 and 11 a.m. on Sunday.
It will be the first Sunday of Advent when we light the Advent candle of hope. Pastor Bill Blair’s message is about the Trinity, âThe Father, the Son, and the Holy Ghost,â with the scriptures from Luke 1: 26-38.
The dance team, under the direction of Joy Christian, will provide special music and dancing on the traditional 9:00 am service. The worship music for the contemporary 11am service will be conducted by Pastor Will Pinos, and the tracklist is “Living Hope”, “Forever Reign”, “Fullness” and “The Blessing”.
The children’s church is available during services and the crÃ¨che is open all morning. There is a Sunday school for children at 10:10 a.m. Sunday school classes for adults and youth meet between services at 10:10 a.m.
Traditional Music Sunday is at 9 a.m. on December 12. The longest night service will be at 7 p.m. on December 21. Contemporary Christmas Eve services will take place at 3 p.m. and 5 p.m., and traditional services at 7 and 9 p.m.

Grit Guys Advent Sessions
The Christian Witness, with its media ministries on radio station WDAD and on FM radio at WMUG-FM, has sponsored a rally for men in the greater Indiana area in recent years. These sessions are scheduled for both Lent and Advent, and feature local leaders as speakers.
The Grit Guys meetings for this upcoming Advent season will start on Friday, November 26 (next to the first Sunday in Advent) and will continue every Friday in December, including Friday morning, December 24.
All men from the larger Indiana community are invited to attend these important sessions, which will be held in the back dining room of Eat’n Park in White Township.
Participants will be greeted with a free cup of coffee at 7:00 a.m. and the program will run at 7.15 a.m. There will be a different speaker each of the five Fridays, who will address the general theme âKnow you betterâ¦ better!
At 8 am, all the men present will be dismissed, either to go to their place of work or to stay in the restaurant for a “Dutch-Treat” breakfast of their choice.

Speakers are Pastor Howard Greenfield on December 3, Ben Glaser on December 10, Kenny Schramko on December 17, and the series will close Jim Geiko on December 24.

BLAIRSVILLE – A midweek Advent study on Dickens arrives at the Lutheran Church in Hebron, 125 N. Liberty St.
The Advent Bible Study of âA Christmas Carolâ will take place at 7:00 pm on the four Wednesdays of Advent: December 1, 8, 15 and 22.
If you have your book, dig it up, read “A Christmas Carol”, watch some movies. Join us, maybe there will be Christmas pudding at the end.
Chicken and waffle buffet
PENN RUN – The Penn Run Brothers Church will be offering a Pennsylvania Dutch Chicken and Waffle Buffet from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Saturday, December 4 at the Penn Run Christian Outreach Center.
The menu consists of chicken in sauce, waffles, mashed potatoes, noodles, vegetables, coleslaw, cauliflower / broccoli salad, desserts and drinks.

The soup is back to Zion Lutheran
Soup lovers who miss the Zion Lutheran Church’s soup kitchens will now have the chance to savor some of the soups – right at home.
Three kinds of frozen take-out soup, including a vegetarian selection, will be available at the church from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Friday, December 10. Choices include winter chili pints, Tuscan chicken soup, and carrot and sweet potato soup (vegetarian).
Those collecting the soup are asked to enter the church through the glass door on Church Street, where additional information will be displayed. Zion Lutheran is located on Sixth and Church streets.
HOMER CITY – St. Mary’s Byzantine Catholic Church, located at 279 Yellow Creek Street, will be holding its cookie sale from 10 a.m. to noon on Saturday, December 11 in the church’s social hall, while supplies last.
Many varieties will be available for the mix and match. There is a limit of 6 dozen.
No early risers. Please bring your own containers.

“Sounds of the season”
BLAIRSVILLE – The Greater Blairsville Co-operative Parish meets at 3 p.m. on Sunday, December 12 to enjoy the music and sounds of this special time of year.
We will meet at Blairsville First UMC at 50 Walnut St. Members from across the parish will present musical and vocal selections to celebrate the season. Black Lick and Blairsville Church Choirs will sing, Black Lick Bell Choir will ring, there will be a piano duet, several vocal solos, an organ solo and a poetry reading in addition to Christmas carols by the participants.
Celebrating the birth of Jesus is an exciting time. The public is invited to join us to hear our members share their talents with you. Don’t hesitate to invite your family, friends and neighbors for this âSounds of the seasonâ program. A voluntary offering will be collected for the benefit of the parish pantry.
BLAIRSVILLE – Pastor John Smaligo and the Lutheran Church in Hebron invite to join them on December 12 at 10:45 a.m. for their special white gifts service.
The church choir will perform during this program. All are invited to join us today. In addition, the Christmas Eve service will take place at 10 p.m. on December 24. More details will follow for the church’s December services.
DERRY – The First United Methodist Church in Derry will host its monthly ladies lunch on Tuesday, December 14 at noon.
It’s a free lunch. A free will offering will be taken. We hope to see you there.
Sion’s drive-thru in December
On the third Saturday of each month throughout this year, the Zion Lutheran Church’s Community Pantry was operated behind the wheel. Food is distributed to residents of Indiana County only. Participants stay in their vehicles throughout the process.
The next drive-thru will be from 10 a.m. to noon on December 18.
No registration or income document is required to receive food bags through the vehicle window. Names are not registered, but the number of families is counted. Up to two families in the same vehicle can receive food, but one person from each family must be present. Wearing a mask is compulsory for everyone’s safety.
In January, the Food Pantry distribution will move indoors. Look at this space in the Gazette for more details.
