City of Roswell: Roswell Selects Next Director of Community Development

The City of Roswell has selected Jason Gaines as Roswell’s next director of community development. Gaines is currently Director of the Planning and Economic Development Division for the Cobb County Government.
Gaines comes to the City with a long experience in community and economic development. Since 2015, he has worked for Cobb County, initially serving as Director of Planning Division until 2020, when he became Director of Planning and Economic Development Division. In these roles, he oversaw the creation of the Cobb County Comprehensive Plan and led the county in economic partnerships and historic preservation.
Between 2012 and 2015, he was the first Director of Planning and Development for the Town of Clarkston. In this role, he worked on the revitalization and planning of the housing market and the revitalization of the downtown core of the city. Prior to his position at Clarkston, he worked in the Cobb County Transportation and Community Development Departments.
Gaines received his master’s degree in urban and regional planning from Georgia Tech and a bachelor’s degree in urban and regional planning from the University of Miami, Ohio.
Gaines is certified by the American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP) and has a certificate in local government management from the UGA Carl Vinson Institute of Government.
Gaines will lead Roswell’s Community Development Department, which preserves and protects the city’s natural and built environments and promotes a balanced economy in the City of Roswell through the use of best planning and development practices. It has 38 employees and a budget of over $ 3.5 million.
