Anne Arundel County Public Library System opens community pantry in Westfield Annapolis Mall – CBS Baltimore
ANNAPOLIS, Maryland (WJZ) – The Anne Arundel County Public Library System opened what officials said was the first community pantry of its kind on Saturday at its Discoveries: The Library at the Mall location in Westfield Annapolis.
Measuring nearly 200 square feet, the space will feature diapers, wipes, personal hygiene products and menstrual products and is designed to benefit both residents and organizations that serve vulnerable families, according to a statement from the library system.

“We are delighted to open this unique and indispensable service at Discoveries: The Library at the Mall,” Skip Auld, general manager of the system, said in the statement. âThe Community Pantry is another way the Anne Arundel County Public Library is helping build stronger communities, from the bottom up. “
Nationally, one in three families struggle with diaper needs, the family spends an average of $ 80 per month per baby on diapers that cannot be obtained with food stamps, according to the release . Many pop-up pantries, set up during the pandemic, are struggling to receive enough diapers to meet the need.

The Container Store, which opened a new location in Westfield Annapolis in May, has set up and organized the space as part of its community service program, the statement said. Donations came from library patrons and other community organizations.
Residents interested in donating to the pantry can drop off items at the library, located near Crate and Barrel, 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday and Saturday. An Amazon wishlist is also available.
